The majority of these leathers originate from the traditional tanneries of the Tuscan leather district and are certified by the Genuine Vegetable-Tanned Leather Consortium and/or the Leather Working Group (LWG).

WHAT IS VEGETABLE TANNED LEATHER?

Vegetable tanned leather is produced using natural tannins (as opposed to the chrome salts used in chrome tanning) derived from plant materials like tree bark, leaves, and roots.
This ancient practice, known for yielding some of the highest-quality and most durable leather, has been refined over centuries.

Vegetable-tanned leather tends to be more expensive than chrome-tanned leather due to the lengthy process, which can take several weeks to complete, as opposed to the chrome tanning process which takes between 20 and 24 hours.

Leather produced through vegetable tanning is usually firm, but with modern technologies, we can now create soft vegetable-tanned leathers as well.
The natural tannins impart a range of warm, earthy tones to the leather, which can darken and change with use and exposure to light.
This type of leaher can develop a rich patina over time, enhancing its natural beauty and uniqueness.

Vegetable tanned leather is commonly used for high-quality products such as luxury belts, wallets, shoes, bags and saddlery.
